I'm on a variable Intelligent Go tariff, why have you increased my standing charges?

We’ve slightly increased electricity standing charges on variable Intelligent Go tariffs to keep your overall costs as low as possible, let us explain:

Costs have shifted behind the scenes and we’ve prioritised lower unit rates

Variable smart tariffs are protected by the price cap. The April 2026 cap went down overall, but the detail is a bit more mixed. Some costs went down (like government levies), while others (particularly network costs) have increased slightly. In some areas, the standing charge cap increased a bit.

Smart tariff customers typically use more energy than average (for example, for EV charging), so unit rates have the biggest impact on your bill.

This time, we’ve reduced unit rates and balanced that with a small increase in the standing charge.

From April, you’re still benefiting from lower unit rates and government cost reductions, so you’re still better off overall.

Thanks to your investment in low carbon tech, you'll benefit more from the govt discount than the average customer and we've heard from many customers with heat pumps, solar or EVs that they feel more protected from the current fuel crisis.
