Why do I need a smart meter to join Weekend Happy Hours?

We need customers to have a working smart meter so we can work out how much electricity you used in each Power Down session – and whether you managed to use less than usual.

Once the data is in, we credit your account with exactly what you used during your free hour (capped at 16kWh, but don’t worry — that’s more than any regular home could use in an hour; it’s more like keeping the lights on at a small sports stadium!) – which is what makes it free!
