Home batteries are great for lowering your bill, but with Charge Pack, our new smart add-on to Intelligent Octopus Go and other tariffs, we can make your battery work even harder for you.
We automatically optimise your battery to charge when energy is cheapest (using your cheap overnight rate or extra daytime solar) and power your home when your day-rate kicks in.
On top of the day-to-day savings, you get the best of both worlds by supporting the grid during high-demand sessions. You will earn a minimum of £12 a month just for being part of the scheme. Plus, you’ll get access to all your live device data right inside the Octopus app, so you can see everything in one place.

How do the sessions work?
Because batteries are great for capturing extra renewables and stabilising the grid, we constantly monitor local energy market forecasts. When the grid needs a boost, we run a session.
We aim to give you as much notice as possible, up to a day ahead of an upcoming session.
During a session, we might instruct your battery to charge or discharge.
Participating in these sessions will never cost you anything. We automatically credit your account to cover any tariff expenses so you never lose out.
Outside of these sessions, your battery will simply go back to optimising for your standard tariff schedule.
How much can I earn?
You can earn by participating in sessions. The rewards for these will vary, but we'll make sure you'll never lose out by participating in them. We will also top up your account at the end of each month, so you will earn a guaranteed minimum of £12 every month.
Here is how session compensation works:
Battery imports cost your day-rate: We compensate you so charging effectively costs you your cheaper off-peak rate.
Battery exports to the grid: We compensate you at the difference between your import day-rate and your export unit rate.
How will I receive my credits?
Your monthly credit (minimum £12/month) will be added directly to your Octopus account.
For the individual grid sessions, we closely monitor how much charge and discharge we’ve instructed from your battery. We then credit your account a few days after the session takes place to ensure you are never out of pocket.
Your standard energy bills will continue to come out as normal.
Can I opt out of the sessions?
At the moment, you are automatically opted into all sessions when you sign up to make sure your battery keeps running smoothly and the automated charging works correctly.

Requirements to join:
You need to be on Intelligent Octopus Go, Octopus Go, Flexible or Fixed tariff for import and on our Outgoing Octopus export tariff.

You also need to have a working smart meter and a compatible battery.
Important: Charge Pack is not stackable with other smart battery optimisation products from other providers (which is already the case with Intelligent Octopus Go).

How is this different to the Flux tariffs?
Think of this as a smart battery add-on for your existing home tariff. It automatically schedules your battery to save you money day-to-day on Intelligent Octopus Go, and gives you a minimum of £12/month bonus for participating in sessions.
Octopus Flux and Intelligent Octopus Flux, on the other hand, are standalone, dedicated tariffs designed specifically for battery owners:
Intelligent Octopus Flux: We completely manage and optimise your battery for you based on specific peak and off-peak rates.
Octopus Flux: Gives you three distinct rate periods (off-peak, day, and peak) for both import and export, but you’ll need to schedule your battery yourself.
