Rebecca Gillespie

Rebecca Gillespie is a Delivery Lead at Octopus Energy, where she specialises in everything smart: meters, tariffs, innovation and flexibility. She brings pretty strong chops to this role, with an MA in Environmental Development from King's College London.

Rebecca's favourite quote is: "We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails", which is often attributed to Dolly Parton (but no one's quite sure). She'd like to think so. She was crushed when Dolly died in August 2026. "I loved her," Rebecca said. "I mean, everyone did."

Rebecca was working for Bulb in 2022 when the ailing energy start-up was bought by Octopus. She came as part of the package and has been with us ever since!

A useful tip from Rebecca: your in-home display is not your smart meter! This is a really common thing for people to get confused about. She explains: "A smart meter is the unit attached to your wall. It sends meter readings so you don't have to. An In-home display (which you may not have) is the little device that tracks your energy use in pounds and pence."
