How long will I get zero energy bills for?

We currently guarantee Zero Bills™ for 5 years. This will be updated over time.

How do I control and monitor my home's heating?

Is there a limit on the energy I can use?

To make it as simple as possible, we’ve a Fair Use Allowance – on total electricity across the year. This is set at approximately double the expected usage, so you’re unlikely ever to exceed it unless you’ve very high heating preferences.

What happens if I exceed the fair usage?

You’ll be billed at our Flexible Octopus unit rate (still no standing charge) for any electricity imported above the Fair Use Allowance, with billing done on an annual basis.

Can I charge an EV with Zero Bills™?

EV charging isn’t included in the Zero Bills allowance, but will be billed separately at Intelligent Octopus unit rates. The rest of the home’s energy needs remain free.

What happens if the hardware fails?

If your solar, battery, or heat pump aren’t working as they should, Octopus reserves the right to move you to a different tariff (likely our standard variable tariff, Flexible Octopus, or Smart Export Guarantee). But don’t worry - we wouldn’t do this for the short period while the hardware is fixed.

Will I still get zero energy bills if my home doesn’t generate the energy it’s expected to?

What if I want to switch providers?

You’re free to leave or switch at any time – we’ll never lock you into any kind of agreement with Octopus.
