We want to do good for the planet and the communities within it. That’s why we started People Power. It’s a way for us to give back to you, while spreading the word about our greener, cheaper energy mission. So how does it work?

If you’re a charity, school or community group that’s doing awesome things, we’ll give you £50 every time someone new joins Octopus using your unique link. No need to set up a fundraising page or wade through a long application. Just tell us a little bit about your cause online and start sharing the Octopus love – it’s that simple.

People Power is super straightforward and you’ll start receiving £50 referral rewards in just a few simple steps:

1. Tell us about your school, charity or community project
2. Get your unique referral link
3. Spread the word about Octopus to your friends, neighbours, colleagues and anyone else who might want to join Octopus for greener, cheaper energy
4. Give them your referral link
5. Once they’ve signed up, we’ll send your organisation £50 and they’ll get £50 free energy credit too!

Each month, we’ll let you know how many people signed up using your referral link, and how much £££ we owe you.

You or a rep from the organisation can invoice us for the monthly amount, and we’ll make a payment into the nominated bank account.

The person who signed up using your link will get paid £50 once they’re set up with us and their first month’s direct debit has been successfully taken.

Once you’ve sent us the invoice for the month, we’ll make sure it’s paid within 30 days.

We love our customers using ingenuity to spread the word about Octopus, but there are a few restrictions as to how you can share your link:

1. You can’t spam third party sites with it, such as adding it to your TrustPilot review – it’s against their regulations, and we get contacted with a request to remove it every time it happens.
   
2. No paid ads. It's great that you love us so much that you're willing to pay to spread the word. But, if you pay for ads you're really not sharing with friends and family and our advertising costs also increase.
   
3. We also feel a bit awkward about you setting up accounts or profiles that use our name or branding and which might indicate you’re an official Octopus account, or affiliated with us – our customers need to know what is ‘us’ and don’t take information from the unofficial sources.

You might have heard of our Octopus referrals scheme, which is a little bit different and designed for individuals only, not organisations. Each customer who joins Octopus gets a unique referral link to share with friends and family. If someone signs up using the link, both people get £50 which is added as energy credit to their account.

People Power is similar, but for organisations, not individuals. Plus, the money goes straight to the organisations, not an energy account. It’s meant to be a simple way for organisations to raise money.

Nope! You’re free to go forth and disperse your referral link to as many people as you like. Spread the word to parents and teachers in your school newsletter, engage volunteers at your community project or send an email out to your charity supporters. The more people you help to switch, the more money you’ll get for your cause.
