Watt a Save! Free World Cup electricity for British pubs
There’s nothing quite like the electric atmosphere of a British pub during the World Cup.
The packed beer garden, the massive screens, the tantalising, addictive feeling that this might finally be the year…
But behind the scenes, pulling pints and keeping the big screens bright takes a lot of energy (literally). Our beloved local pubs have been feeling the squeeze from rising costs, with high energy bills making it harder than ever to keep the doors open.
That’s why during the World Cup, we’re doing something a little different. If you're heading to the pub to watch England or Scotland, your local might just be getting its electricity completely on the house.
We’ve got you, pubs
We’ve launched Watt a Save, a scheme designed to give back to the humble British pub.
Here’s the deal: whenever England or Scotland are playing in the 2026 World Cup, we’re giving eligible pubs free electricity between 7pm and midnight. We’re covering both the usage and the standing charge for those five hours.
Whether it's the Three Lions taking on Panama or the Tartan Army facing down Brazil, landlords up and down the country can keep the beer chilling, the lights on, and the TVs blaring — without having to worry about the energy meter ticking up.
Who can join Watt a Save?
Watt a Save is for pubs across Britain. Even if their national team isn't playing (sorry, Wales), they can still get free electricity on the night of each England or Scotland game.
To join, pubs need to:

Have a working meter that sends us automatic readings (e.g. smart meter, AMR meter)
Why are we doing this?
As a punter, you already know that pubs are the beating heart of our communities.
They are where we gather to celebrate, commiserate and watch history happen. But in a recent survey, a massive 74% of hospitality businesses said energy costs had negatively impacted them over the last year.
By taking the sting out of matchday energy bills, Octopus Energy is effectively becoming the "12th player" for local businesses. It means your favourite landlord gets a much-needed break and you get to enjoy the vibes knowing your local is being supported.
Even if your local isn't showing the football, they can still get the free electricity as long as they're signed up.

Get down there and support them! The best way to help your local pub thrive is to buy a pint, grab some food, and enjoy the tournament with your mates.
