Want to join Octopus Go?

You'll need to:

  1. Sign up to Octopus Energy

You must be an Octopus Energy customer — Co-op Energy, London Power and M&S Energy customers are not able to access Octopus Go. Switch to Octopus Go on an interim tariff. Get a quote here.

  2. Have a smart meter we can connect to

If you don't already have one of these smart meters we can arrange a SecureTM smart meter installation at no extra charge. Please be aware that whilst most properties are suitable for a smart meter (as long as you have good mobile signal, and are not currently on a prepay meter), some properties are not. If you have a 3 phase electricity meter, you're in a rural location, or your electricity meter is in a communal cupboard, drop an email to and we'll look into it for you.

If we are not able to fit a smart meter for you, we will be in touch to let you know. You will be free to switch away from us at any time. If we are able to fit a smart meter, we will get in contact with you when we have appointments in your area. We will do this as quickly as possible, but it can take some time depending on current pandemic restrictions and availability. You can read more about this in our blog.

If you're not sure whether your SMETS1 is from SecureTM, it should be written on the front of your smart meter.

  3. Confirmation email

Once we've received half-hourly readings from your smart meter, which takes up to 14 days, we'll send you an email asking you to accept the Terms and Conditions of Octopus Go to complete your switch. You must accept these T&Cs before your switch to Octopus Go can be completed. They include allowing us to take half hourly readings from your meter and understanding that Octopus Go is a beta product which means that some things may not work first time. They also explain that you can switch away from Octopus Go to one of our standard tariffs at any time, but you cannot switch back to one of our smart tariffs within 30 days. Read more information about the T&Cs we will ask you to accept.

  4. Go charging!

With a smart charger or Ohme smart cable, plug in your car before bed and your charger will only start to charge when the cheap 5p price kicks in.

Octopus Go is a product of our labs, available now to customers through our beta programme.

You'll need a SMETS2 smart meter, or a “Secure” branded SMETS1 meter, that we can receive half-hourly consumption data from.

Don't have a suitable smart meter?

Start your switch below to register your interest for a smart meter. The smart meter installation comes at no extra cost.

We are installing in line with government regulations around Covid-19, making sure we are keeping our engineers and our customers safe. For full details of the steps we're taking to prevent the spread of the virus, head to our Covid-19 policy.

Once you've registered your interest, our team will be in contact when we have an appointment in your area.

Octopus Go is a cutting edge innovation created by Octopus's unique technology. Unlike products available from other companies, it relies on a smart meter system (which as our Founder Greg explains here, is not always fully reliable). Some customers have experienced delays. However, of the thousands of customers on these smart tariffs, the vast majority are now experiencing smooth service.
