Small Battery: Octopus Energy launches the ‘Nook’ range, home batteries to unlock lower bills for millions of households
Octopus to launch its own plug-in battery and wall-mounted system
Move makes Octopus the first major British energy supplier to launch its own battery range
Announced today at Octopus's Energy Tech Summit, customers can snap up the technology in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain from next year
London, 22 June 2026 – Millions of households across Europe will soon be able to cut their energy bills with Octopus Energy’s new home battery range.
Announced today at the company’s flagship Energy Tech Summit, the new range includes a plug-in battery designed for renters and apartment dwellers, alongside a wall-mounted, engineer installed system for homeowners.
Home batteries help customers store clean electricity when prices are low and use it later when energy is more expensive, potentially saving hundreds of pounds on energy bills a year.*
Until now, the benefits of home batteries have been largely out of reach for Britain’s over 10 million renting households.** Octopus’s plug-in battery changes that.
Customers will be able to get their hands on Octopus Nook Cube, a compact, shoebox-sized 2kWh battery that simply plugs into a standard socket. Controlled through the Octopus app, extra units will be able to be added to increase storage up to 10.5kWh.
For homeowners, Octopus is also launching Octopus Nook Collosus, a wall-mounted 5kWh battery, which can be stacked up to 30kWh for larger homes.
Both battery systems are compatible with solar panels and come with a 12-year warranty. They will be available to Octopus customers in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and France from next year.
Customers can boost savings even further by pairing the batteries with one of Octopus's smart tariffs, which have saved customers almost £1 billion.
The move makes Octopus the first major UK energy supplier to offer its own home battery range directly to customers.
Greg Jackson, Founder and CEO of Octopus Energy Group, said: “Home batteries are a brilliant piece of tech and one of the smartest ways to cut energy bills right now.
“Offering Octopus batteries to our customers is a big step in our mission to help people to tap into the cheapest energy possible.”
Demand for batteries has been booming since the war in the Middle East, with households trying to shield themselves from soaring, unpredictable energy prices.
Across the UK, Spain and France, Octopus has already installed almost 26,000 solar and battery systems, helping customers lower energy bills and make the most of clean energy.
