My wish

The genie represents my wish for a greener cleaner future. The genie has a big brain and a third eye as that is what feel it would take for my wish to come true. We all need to come together (if you share my wish) and reinvent the future with solar, wind and hydropower, smaller efficient homes with living roofs and electric cars, cleaner waterways and nature reserves flourishing with wildlife. A stark contrast to our current way of life which is represented in the background.

Its a jungle wood. Reusing and recycled items to good for the environment to bring nature to my room. Reinvented the wrapping paper to make the background texture and used stones from the garden to make a pond. My reinvention idea was to turn everyday materials into a creative jungle habitat instead of throwing them away. This helps reduce waste and shows how recycling can be good for the environment.

I drew some kids playing by a stream. The centre kid is interacting with the natural world in two ways: one hand steadying himself on the soil, and the other feeling the fast stream around his finger. The other is making his way down the steep soil, holding on to the grass beside him. These points of contact symbolize how kids should touch grass, and how if someone doesn't have joy in nature, they are likely to start seeing it as something repulsive and dirty; If parents keep telling kids to be careful and keep them inside, that bond with nature will be weakened. So they would be less likely to respond when told to save the natural environment, because love for it isn't in their life. Kids must play outside, or we will develop an apathy towards environmental degradation happening around us.

A girl walking down a path, near a house. I chose it as I had read a news article about feral cats not adoptable and being placed in a barn as a home at a farm as pest control. In the same article, there were tiny sheep that would eat the weeds under grapevines so they control the weed growth.

My artwork is a collage using pictures which I found in magazines. My collage shows how we could cycle or use buses instead of using cars. I also included a picture of a solar panel to show how can use cleaner energy when we need it. I added some leaves as decoration.

A lightbulb moment in sustainability

My artwork represents the past of what sustainability used to be and the lightbulb moments Octopus Energy and society had in order to change it.

They grey colourings represent the darkness and negative views the world has towards the history of sustainability. It provides an opportunity of looking into the past of what has been, in order to see a brighter future. The items the octopus is grasping represent ideas around plastics and littering in our oceans and how this can affect not only our planet and animals but also end up within our foods including our fish we consume.

Our octopus is also grasping onto a car which is representing the harmful emissions cars produce every second around the world promoting the idea of electric cars and public transport. Finally power stations are one of the leading sources of C02 emissions in the UK.

The lightbulb is representing the people who are realising what this is doing to our climate and those that are reinventing how we approach these growing issues. There is a tree to symbolise the reproduction of oxygen they can provide, wind turbines and solar panels that embody the ideas of renewable energy and how we can continue to grow on these inventions and finally the Octopus Home mini which is emphasising all of the work being put in by Octopus to encourage society to be more sustainable in their energy usage.

I drew an angle looking over a city but all eyes are on the angel, symbolising that your the star of your own life. The angel’s wings symbolise rebirth, hope, and the opportunity to become a new version of yourself.

I wanted to show that change doesn’t mean losing who you are. The quote, “Despite everything, it’s still you,” reflects how we can grow and change while still holding on to a part of our original selves.

I used dark colours such as black, grey and brown to represent pollution waste and the damage caused by human activities while the bright greens, blues and yellows symbolize nature hope and renewal. The central figure connects these two contrasting environments representing how people can make a difference through creativity and positive action. I included a winding road to symbolise the journey towards a more sustainable world, alongside recycling symbols trees and signs to highlight the importance of reusing materials reducing waste and protecting nature. The colourful clothing represents creativity, and the idea discarded materials can be transformed into something beautiful and meaningful. Through my use of colour symbolism and contrasting landscapes I wanted to show although humans contribute to environmental problems, we also have the power to make positive changes and work towards a greener tomorrow.​

I have created a unique by using sustainable materials to decrease the risk of rubbish that spreads and harms the environment. I have appropriately designed a jacket by using different sources of materials such as crisp packets, chocolate wrappers, feathers,, sweet wrappers, sequins and googly eyes to show the different materials that affect the environment around us. Furthermore, I have created the jacket to be made out of plastic and clingfilm to hold the sustainable materials inside so they can't escape, by doing this it holds the materials inside the jacket to prevent spreading. In my opinion I think it would create a unique, inspiring look for individuals to wear or take inspiration and make their own piece by styling it correctly. I choose this jacket as I thought it would be different to others and it would be a stand out design, as well as it being useful.

My work includes upcycled clothing and fabric that has been donated to charity shops and unused clothing items. The contents of my piece consist of A white and red shirt. This white shirt was ripped using scissors and ripping it by hand. The black shirt underneath it isn't stitched so it can be swapped out to give it some variety. Lastly, the bottom of the arms are stitched with fishnet gloves to give it a mesh texture and to make it much fashionable.

My work is a representation of growth. Its meaning is for us to grow and become a newer version of ourselves than we were yesterday. We as a society need to help the Earth grow, help its environment thrive and become something new and healthy. I drew a home on a cliff side to show structure and safety, safety from falling and losing all progress made to make a safe environment. The mountains in the back represent strength, the strong and grounded rock from the earth stands tall, it doesn’t grow but it stands tall, unshaken or beaten down to the ground. Bamboo plants are constantly growing, more fresh too. The more the bamboo grows, the newer the bottom layer is and the taller it gets, meaning the house grows taller with it. A healthy bamboo plant continues to grow taller while an unhealthy one might not be as tall, shown with the bamboos in the back, some wonky and others just short. These are causes from the bad environment, nothing or no one can grow because of the harsh climate. But if we were to change and help the earth grow, we can have a renewed environment and climate, to help our world expand.

My piece of artwork is about pollution and how it can affect other animals and what damage it can cause. I used acrylic paint and other methods of painting to create the artwork about it. I used a 3-D printer to make a sculpture of the 3-D well after priming and painting it as well as using elastic cord painted orange to look like fishing wire.

I was inspired by rubbish in the ocean, including bottles, plastic bags, fishing wire, and other plastic packaging and rubbish. I used acrylic paint and other stuff to paint and destroy a beautiful sea skate to create destruction with rubbish and garbage to to explain how the pollution is affecting the sea.

This artwork represents the good and the bad in the choices that we make that affect the environment. The healthy side shows solar panels and wind turbines to use the natural resources effectively. It has healthy land and a clear blue ocean. The other side shows lots of buildings and smoke causing pollution and the land overheating and the ocean being dirty because of people getting rid of their waste into it.

One World

Nursery to Year 6 - Blaydon West Primary School

Every year group - from our youngest nursery children to Year 6 - came together to create this stunning collaborative artwork. Exploring our theme of "reinvention," we used a rich mix of mediums, including sculpture, painting, drawing, and collage, with a special focus on recycled materials.

Our Nursery and Reception children painted and drew small figures hidden throughout the piece, symbolising that the future of our planet belongs to them. Year 1 built windmills from repurposed items to show how we must reinvent our technology to protect the planet. Year 2 crafted striking sculptures of our world while Year 3 created cardboard sea creatures to highlight how vulnerable marine life is when we fail to protect our world. Year 4 built intricate trees using recycled paper to demonstrate the impact trees have on our environment. Year 5 painted earth scenes, tore them up, and pieced them back together in a powerful collage representing a fractured environment. Year 6 designed large-scale landscapes celebrating the different corners of our world.

The piece is split into two with a positive and negative side. The positive side has a human face which has people of different backgrounds drawn in different materials to promote inclusivity. In my artwork, I have shown the reinvention of the Earth’s atmosphere, transforming it from a dull, gloomy environment into a bright, colourful world. The lack of colour on the left half symbolises sadness, suffering and misery, while the vibrant colours on the right half represent hope, happiness and new beginnings. I used shading pencils and coloured pencils throughout the piece to show that the same materials can create completely different effects depending on how they are used and interpreted. This contrast highlights how the world can be seen in different ways and how positive change can transform something negative into something beautiful. I ripped the page out of my sketchbook to bring a rawness to the piece.

My painting shows a contrast between two different worlds and a balloon in the middle of these worlds. The world at the top of my painting represents a world where coral is bright and colorful and where coral bleaching does not exist. There are lots of trees. However, this contrasts with the bottom world where there is pollution and smoke, coral reefs are bleached and there is plastic in the sea. Sea levels are rising, which causes floods. Ice caps are melting and deforestation is happening. Buildings are built in highly concentrated areas making people more vulnerable to sinkholes. This links to reinvention because we can chose to live in a world where everyone respects nature but we chose not to. The balloon represents humanity the balloon is middle of these two worlds just like we have a choice to move away from these bad habits.

The Ocean Keeps No Secrets

The artwork is created by environment materials from nature and I want a deeper meaning to the piece. The paint that glows was created to make the Whale Shark and everything surronded around it, causing an extraordinary natural - like bioluminescence.

The meaning of the art work is influence and give people hope to help and restore peace and let the innocent marine animals live and free. It is a beautiful reminder of our lost ones that we have lost in our lives, such as family members, pets, wildlife and nature.

The art work shares that when we grieve, we also heal and grow as a person. The glow represents our beauty and afterlife spirits.

To get the artwork to glow, I used a UV light to charge, displaying it in a dark room, and watch the glow fade after turning off the UV light.

The Things We’re Leaving Behind

In my opinion, the reinvention of energy starts with education. This piece is about the difference between then and now. At one end of the gallery, there is coal and oil leading into a fuel pump, representing our reliance on extracting finite materials from the earth. In the centre, a boy and his mum look towards a trophy-like statue. This is meant to feel like a statement about the future of energy.

The clean energy flower grows out from the coal and oil pipes, showing how something positive can come from what has caused so much damage. A lot of harm has already been done to the planet but I wanted to create this piece to show that it is not too late to change.

Some angles reflect a clean, thriving world where people and nature coexist. The centre reveals a polluted and technology-driven future, where convenience, excessive screen use and constant exposure to information begin to affect how we live, think and connect.

The artwork also questions our growing dependence on technology and AI. As machines make life easier, are we becoming less willing to think, create and solve problems for ourselves? My artwork explores the connection between humans and the natural world. I combined a human skeleton with an octopus to show how different forms of life can exist together and transform. I chose an octopus because I find them fascinating and wanted to contrast its bright colours and flowing shape with the delicate structure of the skeleton. I’ve decided to draw an eye with the iris being the world. The water part of the world I put lots of dots there to represent nurdles. Then there is a tear also with lots of dots representing the sadness and nurdles. The background is black to represent sadness also because nurdles are harmful to wildlife and us. If we use less plastic, less plastic products will be produced then there will be less nurdles. Also when nurdles are in the sea due to spillage during transport for example, these then can harm wild life. When fishes for example eat the nurdles they then contain micro plastics and if we then eat the fish that then means we eat the microplastics and these can then harm us humans too.

I want this to show how there is still hope for the future of our planet and that it isn't too late to change, and that fresh, new life can still emerge in places ruined by humans.

I chose to make this piece because I believe that if everyone helps our world can become bright again and not be swallowed by global warming, litter, and harm done to nature and animals. I portrayed this by having every element connected to the light bulb earth showing it getting brighter with everyone's help.
