Octopus Energy brings next-gen ‘Cosy’ heat pump to France, turbocharging the European heat revolution
Octopus launches its award-winning ‘Cosy’ heat pump in France, targeting 10k installations within the next year
French households to benefit from self-optimising heat pump technology
Expansion follows surging heat pump demand across Octopus’ other markets, including the UK, Germany and Spain
London / Paris, Tuesday 26 May 2026 – Octopus Energy is ramping up Europe’s heat pump revolution with the launch of its award-winning ‘Cosy’ heat pump in France, bringing Octopus’s low-carbon home heating to one of Europe's largest energy markets.
Announced today at the Élysée Palace in Paris, the energy giant aims to install 10,000 heat pumps in French homes over the next 12 months, significantly scaling the rollout of cheaper, cleaner heating across the country.
Designed and built by Octopus in Europe, the ‘Cosy’ heat pump is a smarter, more efficient way to heat a home. Using built-in sensors and intelligent software, its state-of-the-art tech helps keep homes comfortable while using energy more efficiently.
Through the Octopus app, customers can control their heating from anywhere, adjusting temperatures, setting schedules and tracking performance. Like a smartphone, ‘Cosy’ receives regular updates that continuously add new features and improvements.
‘Cosy’ also works with existing radiators and water cylinders, so most homes can switch with minimal disruption – with many installations completed in just 2-3 days.
Demand for heat pumps is rising rapidly as more households look for cleaner alternatives to gas heating and better protection from volatile energy prices, with heat pump orders from Octopus jumping by 117% over the past year in the UK*.
Octopus already installs heat pumps across the UK, Germany and Spain, and operates a major Research & Development centre for the Decarbonisation of Heat in Slough, England.
The company is also rapidly growing across Europe. In France, Octopus is now the country’s fifth-largest energy supplier, serving 750,000 customers after tripling its customer base since 2023.
Alex Schoch, Global Director for Electrification at Octopus Energy, said: “We’re moving fast to electrify home heating, cut bills and boost energy security. The future of heating is electric – and France is ready for it.
“The Cosy heat pump has already slashed bills for thousands of households in the UK, and we’re ready to do the same across the channel. Heat pumps such as our Cosy are proving hugely popular, giving customers a cleaner, smarter alternative to polluting gas boilers. We’re now speeding up the rollout of low-carbon tech even more, helping households protect themselves from energy shocks that are becoming far too common.”
Building on its success in the UK, Octopus also plans to bring its ‘Zero Bills’ homes to 15,000 customers in France by 2030. First launched in France last year, these homes are fitted with bill-busting green tech, including heat pumps, batteries and solar panels – with no energy bills guaranteed for at least 5-10 years.
