High Five! Octopus Energy celebrates turning five by giving 5-year-olds the chance to win a year’s free energy for families

  • Energy tech ‘double unicorn’ Octopus Energy turns five years old this May
  • To celebrate, it is giving away free energy for a year and a kids’ Tesla for five lucky winners
  • Only fellow five-year-olds may enter, with their whole household benefitting if they win

10th May 2020 - Octopus Energy Group, the energy technology ‘double unicorn’ with over 2.2 million customers in the UK, is celebrating its fifth birthday this May.

To celebrate the special occasion, the company is offering its fellow five-year-olds (or anyone who is in reception or year 1 age groups) a chance to win a children’s Tesla Model S - a battery-powered ride-on with top speed of 6mph - and free energy for a year for their family, along with a host of other goodies for all the entrants.

To enter the competition, the five-year-old must create something magical that answers the question: ‘How do we make the earth a better place?’ Submissions can be anything from a painting, a dance, poems, songs or anything creative they can think of. The parent or guardian who is teaming up with the five year old must then film them showing and talking about their magical answer.

There will be five winners in total. The videos will be voted on by the public, with three top favourites winning by community vote. A further two winners will be chosen by our Octopus Energy judging panel based on the following criteria:

  • Originality / creativity
  • Relevance
  • Best representation of the contest theme

But at the Octopus Energy playground, everyone's a winner, so all entrants will receive:

  • Our very first children’s book published in partnership with Dorling Kindersley Publishing to help kids understand renewable energy - first edition, signed by Octopus Energy’s co-founders.
  • A giant, fluffy Constantine toy. The first of our all-new, 100% recycled version.

Greg Jackson, founder and CEO of Octopus Energy Group, comments:

“I’m ecstatic that we’ve reached the five year mark, and what a half-decade it’s been! I couldn’t be prouder of the team for achieving a $2 billion valuation, six different country launches and 2.2 million customers in such a short amount of time. If this is what we can do with five years, what can we do with ten?

“Our fellow five-year-olds now have an amazing opportunity to win themselves a Tesla Model S (which aren’t even available in the UK!) and a year's worth of free energy for a year. I’m super excited to see some of the videos that come out of our competition and to see who wins.”

Terms and conditions for entry can be found here.
