You must be an Octopus Energy customer to join Intelligent Octopus Go. If you're not a customer yet, start your switch below.

Get your EV charger Once you're a customer, we'll send you a remote survey and arrange an installation date with you.
Have a smart meter we can connect to
Intelligent Octopus Go only works in homes with a smart meter that sends us half hourly readings. That's second generation SMETS2 meters and some types of SMETS1 meters. If you don't already have one we'll aim to install this at the same time as your EV charger. We'll be in touch to arrange this with you. It typically takes 14 days for us to be able to connect to your smart meter. We'll let you know once we're ready to go.
Get ready to charge
Once we've connected to your EV charger and smart meter, we'll email you to download the app. Once you're set up on the app and ready-to-go, your tariff will change to Intelligent Octopus Go and you'll be ready for your first smart charge!

Intelligent Octopus Go is reliant on the UK's smart meter network, which means there can occasionally be issues we don't have control over. Some industry-standard tech (like In-Home Displays) might not work perfectly, and some processes like installations may take longer than we'd like. This product is right at the cutting edge of energy tech, so very occasionally, some things might not work the first time.

Once you've submitted your online survey, we'll give you a call to discuss your installation requirements. If we're unable to do a standard installation we'll let you know on the call and follow up with a quote for your install.
What does a 'standard installation' involve?
We split all installations into two categories: 'standard' and 'non-standard'. A standard installation is likely to involve fewer hours of labour and materials.
We take into account factors such as:
- Number of drilled walls – how many walls will the installer need to drill through to run a cable from your main fuse box to your charger
- Distance from charger to main fuse box – how far away from your main fuse box is the desired charger location? Is it over 15m?
- Is your cable going above or below ground?
Our team will talk you through the different factors that will impact your installation (and installation cost) so that there are no surprises on the day.
A 'standard' charge point installation generally includes:
- The fitting of the charger on a brick or plaster wall, (or other suitable permanent structure)
- Routing of the cable through 1 x drilled hole in a wall up to 500mm thick (where required)
- Up to 10 metres of High Tuff cable, run and clipped to the wall between the consumer unit and the EV charger, up to a height of up to 1.8m
- Electrical connections at the origin of the supply and the charging unit
- Type A RCD in metal Consumer Unit
- Electrical testing and NICEIC Certification
- Installation of a Matt-e unit (or alternative earthing unit) where the EV charging hardware necessitates
- Demonstration of the Charge point functions and App.
What size cable do I need for an EV charger?
Can I plug my electric car into a regular outlet?
Yes, you can. Would we recommend it? Not really. With such a low charge it can take you a long time to charge your electric vehicle this way.
Is a home EV charger worth it?
We think so! If you have off-street parking, getting a home EV charging point is worth it for two major reasons: you won't have to rely on finding public EV chargers, and you can take advantage of tariffs that give you lower prices overnight.
How much power does a home charger use?
It differs between chargers, but the EV chargers we offer are rated at around 7kW. To compare, a typical electric furnace draws about 10-20kW and a water heater uses 3-5kW.
What will I need for a remote EV charger survey?
You'll need to answer some questions about where you want the EV charger to be installed, and send us some photos so we can check your eligibility. That way we can decide how best to go about your installation.
How do I pay?
Once you've accepted the quote, we'll email you a payment link to pay for your chargepoint installation.
