FAQs
Why can't I control my Tesla Powerwall anymore after signing up for Intelligent Octopus Flux?
After connecting your battery, you'll lose direct control of your Tesla Powerwall. This is because we're working on connecting it to our system, which can take up to 7 days. Once connected, we'll be able to optimise your battery for maximum savings and green energy use.
In your Tesla app, you should notice that you have been enrolled into a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).
Why can it take up to 7 days to connect / disconnect my Tesla Powerwall?
To connect / disconnect your Tesla Powerwall involves a complex process of joining up our systems. This includes steps to ensure accurate control and data transfer. This process, from authorisation to validation, can take up to 7 days.
If you're still waiting after that time, please contact us and we'll look into it. The Tesla support team can't help in these cases.
How do I know when my Tesla Powerwall is fully connected to the Octopus Energy app?
You'll know your Tesla Powerwall is successfully connected when it appears as 'connected' in the 'Devices' tab of your Octopus Energy app. Tap on it and it will give you live updates, including real-time charging or discharging activity.
Can I still use the Tesla app while my Powerwall is connected to Octopus?
You'll still be able to open your Tesla app, but all the control settings for your Powerwall will be managed by Octopus. This will be reflected in your Tesla app as being enrolled in a 'Virtual Power Plant' (VPP), where it will confirm that your battery charging / discharging is being optimised for Intelligent Octopus Flux.
I wish to regain control of my Tesla Powerwall, how do I do this?
If you'd like to manage your Tesla Powerwall directly again, you can disconnect it through the Octopus app. Here's how:
- Open the Octopus app and tap 'Devices'.
- Select your Tesla Powerwall.
- Tap the 'settings' cog in the top right corner.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap 'Disconnect device'.
Please keep in mind that it can take up to 7 days for the disconnection to fully process on our end. Once it's complete, you'll have full control of your Powerwall again. Also, just a heads up, disconnecting means you'll no longer be eligible for Intelligent Octopus Flux.
Will Intelligent Octopus Flux discharge my battery completely?
No. Each day our optimisation works to fill your battery to ~100% before the 4pm to 7pm peak, using energy from either the grid or your solar panels. Then, during the peak, we'll discharge your battery to power your home (or export any excess to the grid) down to 20%.
Can I adjust the minimum reserve level in my Powerwall, when on Intelligent Octopus Flux?
No, the reserve is set to 20% and can't be adjusted.
Hey I'm Constantine, welcome to Octopus Energy!
