How do I refer my friends or family?
Thanks for helping to spread the smart-tech love! If you've had a heat pump, solar power or EV charger installed by Octopus, you'll be eligible for our referral reward.
Once your installation is complete, we'll send over your unique referral link.
To refer a friend or family member, simply share your unique referral link with them. They'll need to sign up by providing their first name, email address and accepting our T&Cs. We'll then email them with details of the referral offer for the relevant products and how to take it up.
When they get an online quote with us, they must use the same email address they used to sign up for the referral offer. This allows us to identify them and track their journey so that we can process the rewards after installation.
Once your friend's installation is complete, we'll process the rewards for both of you – and that's it! The only thing for you to do now is share your link and wait for the rewards to come rolling in.
What rewards will we receive?
For heat pump and solar referrals, both you and your friend will receive a digital £100 Visa cash card each (a total shared reward of £200).
For EV charger installations, both you and your friend will receive a digital £25 Visa cash card each (a total shared reward of £50).
When will I receive my reward?
Your reward will be processed after your friend's installation is complete. We'll send it directly to you by email once everything's finalised.
What happens if my install, or my friend's install, doesn't go ahead?
We understand sometimes things don't quite go as planned.
If, for whatever reason, Octopus can’t move forward with your friend’s installation, we'll honour any referrals you make before the cancellation.
If the person you're referring cancels their installation, they won't be eligible for the reward, and you won't receive your reward either.
Is there a limit to the number of people I can refer?
Nope! Please share the Octopus smart tech love as far and wide as possible.
Do I need to be an Octopus Energy customer?
You don't need to have your energy supplied by Octopus Energy to qualify for a referral, and neither does the person you're referring. But we’d love for you to join us and have a range of money-saving smart tariffs designed to work with our super-cool smart tech!
Can I refer myself for a second installation?
This offer is only applicable as a way to refer a friend or family member living at a separate address. That means it's not possible to refer yourself (or someone else living at your property) for a second installation if you've already had another smart tech product installed by us.
If available, we may be able to offer a discount on your second product – speak to your sales specialist to find out more.
Why do I need to use the same email address for the referral sign-up and quote?
Using the same email address helps us to identify you and track your journey through our system and makes sure you receive your reward promptly after installation is complete. If different email addresses are used, we may not be able to connect your referral sign-up with your installation, which will prevent us from issuing your reward.
What if I sign up to referral offers after getting a quote or completing an online purchase?
It's important that you use your friend’s unique referral link to sign up to referral offers, and then use the same email address to get your quote or complete your online purchase. If you haven’t followed these steps in order, we’re unable to retrospectively apply any referral offers to your order.

Octopus Energy Smart Tech Referral Scheme
1. How the programme works
Our referral scheme allows you to share your love for your Octopus smart tech with friends and family. Once your smart tech is installed, you’ll receive a referral link. Simply share that referral link with someone, and that person (the Recipient for the purposes of these T&Cs) can use the link to request details of the referral offers and how to make the most of them. If you are sending your referral link to a Recipient, you will be known as a Referral User for the purposes of these T&Cs.
You can refer Recipients to two different schemes; (i) Heat Pump and Solar System, and Electric Vehicle Charger (each a Referral Programme and together the Referral Programmemes).
A referral will be deemed to have taken place once the Recipient has had their Octopus smart tech installed and the installation process has been completed and is not disputed (a Referral).
2. Rewards and offers
The rewards you and the Recipient receive as a result of a Referral are as follows:
- Where a recipient receives a heat pump or solar system as part of a Referral, each of you and the Recipient shall receive a digital, pre-paid £100 gift card, issued by VISA.
- Where a recipient receives an electric vehicle charger as part of a Referral, each of you and the Recipient shall receive a digital, pre-paid £25 gift card, issued by VISA.
Each of (a) and (b) being a Referral Reward.
3. Issuing of rewards and offers
You and the Recipient shall each receive the relevant Referral Reward once the Referral has completed and the Recipient’s installation of Octopus smart tech has taken place.
Please note that the provision of your referral link, and the expression of interest by the Recipient via that link, does not constitute a Referral. The Recipient will still need to meet the eligibility criteria, and comply with our instructions as required, to have Octopus smart tech installed at their home (the Requirements).
The Requirements can be different for each person or installation depending on a number of factors (such as, for example, the surroundings of their home and their property’s insulation levels).
As such we reserve the right to reject an application for Octopus smart tech made by a Recipient, and we do not guarantee that a Recipient’s Referral will be accepted and completed.
Please note, we will need your up-to-date information in order to process your Referral Reward. We may also request a form of identification to verify your identity before issuing Referral Rewards.
The Referral Rewards are non-fungible, and cannot be exchanged for any other reward or incentive (such as cash or energy credits).
4. Privacy
4.1. All personal information collected and processed as part of this Referral Programme (whether you are accessing the Scheme as a Recipient or a Referral User) will be used to deliver the Referral Programmes, and otherwise in accordance with the Octopus Energy Group Limited’s Privacy Policy, available at octopus.energy/policies/privacy-policy.
4.2. Where you are acting as a Referral User, you undertake to respect the privacy rights of the people you invite to our Referral Programme and direct to our website.
5. General
5.1. These Referral Terms are published by Octopus Energy Services Limited] (“we”’, “us” and “our”). Our Referral Programme as displayed on our Website [octopus.energy/smart-home-tech/lct-referral] and these Terms form a binding agreement for both Referral Users and Recipients, who receive our referral invitation.
5.2. You may share your referral link with as many people and as many times as you like. However, you may not send or advertise your referral link to people who are not known to you, and you may only use your referral link for personal use.
5.3 If we think you’re doing this or are in any way trying to benefit from the Referral Programmes on a commercial basis rather than for personal use, we reserve the right to deactivate your referral link.
6. Term and termination
6.1. The Referral Programmes will run from the date of announcement until we decide to terminate it, which we may do at any time at our sole discretion. We may, in our sole discretion, notify Referral Users that one or both of the Referral Programmes has ended.
6.2. Any referral made before the end of the Referral Programme can still participate. However, any applications made by individuals using your referral link after the Referral Programme in question has terminated will not be valid, and will not be accepted.
6.3. You must not:
6.3.1 represent yourself as acting on behalf of or as agent for our company or wider group or purport to legally bind us; or
6.3.2 create any materials which contain our branding or corporate identity, or otherwise use any of our branding; or
6.3.3 make use of your referral link for commercial purposes; or
6.3.4 breach these T&Cs or any applicable laws.
6.4 We reserve the right to terminate your referral link and end your participation in the Referral Programmes if you act in breach of clause 6.3.
7. Amendments
We may amend these terms and conditions and/or the details of any Referral Programme, at any time and at our sole discretion. This might include offering and/or restricting additional incentives, benefits and Programmes. As a result, additional terms may apply.

9. Applicable law
The laws of England and Wales shall apply to these T&Cs. The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction in the handling of any dispute arising under or in connection with these T&Cs.
