Electric Match Club: choose lower bills for local energy

We've found a way to make your bills a bit lower

Matching your usage with local energy generators can carry fewer costs.

Because of a recent change in the energy system, we've found a way to pass this saving onto your business.

It's that simple. No catch. Win-win.

The only rule of Electric Match Club? You just need to opt in:

Electric Match Club is pretty simple

It gives you lower bills for local power.

We'll connect your business to local generators. When you use their electricity, you'll earn credit.

This credit then comes off your monthly invoices.

You'll keep your current tariff and rates. Electric Match Club is just a cherry on top.

The kind of cherry that can lower your bills 🍒

Opt in your business each quarter

You'll join the club for 3 months at a time.

When the quarter's finishing, we'll let you know how to apply for the next one.

Earn money with local energy

Just keep on using your energy, as normal.

When your generators are providing power at the same time, you'll be earning credit.

Grow your earnings with flexible usage

Raise your rewards by shifting some of your usage.

Using more energy when your generators are firing = more credit for you.

Enjoy your monthly club credit

At the end of each month, we add the credit you earned to your account.

It'll come off your monthly bill. So, your invoices will be lower.

It's about time

You'll have real-time links with specific local generators.

When you use energy in the same half-hour period they produce it, your bills benefit.

There'll be certain times of day when their generation is particularly high. You'll see when these are in advance, thanks to your personalised online dashboard.

If you shift more of your usage into these times, you'll use more local energy - which means more credit.

We call this time-matching.

Here's how we work out how much credit you earn

First, we break your usage down into half-hour periods

For each one, we look at:

  • how much energy you used

  • how much energy your generators produced

Then, we match it all up

We look at usage from periods where (a) you used energy, and (b) there was energy available from the generators.

Because this energy is locally matched, some government levies don't apply. So, we can pass some savings directly to you as monthly credit.

The exact figure will vary by month and by business. But we think you'll be able to save up to 5%.

We saw a chance to help SMEs - and we took it

Recently, there was a change in the energy system. It unlocked a way for businesses to benefit from matching with small, local generators.

We're offering this benefit to our SME customers. We think this is the right thing to do, because we always focus on making energy better for all businesses.

Electric Match Club in 5 simple steps:

  1. You opt in to your local Electric Match Club

  2. We let you know once you're in

  3. For 3 months, you can earn credit when your generators are firing

  4. You can lower your bill further by shifting some usage into those periods (your personalised online dashboard helps you with this step)

  5. After 3 months, we let you know whether you can opt in again for the next quarter

Some levy costs aren’t charged on electricity that is matched in real time between businesses and renewable generators. It's because of this that Electric Match Club can lower your bills.

Our method to calculate potential savings is:

  1. We worked out what % of customers’ usage we expect to match in real time to renewable generators (the matching %)

  2. We looked at our forecasts to estimate the total avoidable levy cost value

  3. We multiplied total avoidable levy cost value by matching % to find the gross savings created by matching

  4. We split this savings value between our business customers, the renewable generators, and us, including enough to cover our costs of providing the scheme

  5. We calculated customer value as a % of their total annual costs.
