We talk to Rodna, a business energy specialist working in our Leicester office, about finding a surprise career in energy that dares to be different!

Why did you join Octopus?

I’d just finished my masters degree (in International Development Law and Human Rights) and I didn't just want a job. I wanted to be part of something greater! I was looking to work at a company with values that aligned with mine.

My background isn’t in energy, and in fact, what I did know about the industry was all really negative. When I came across Octopus Energy I was drawn by their desire to make a difference in a broken industry.

Octopus also caught my eye in the sense that it was so customer focused. Whilst other companies prioritise profit maximisation at the expense of their customer and employee satisfaction, Octopus puts people at the heart of the business. I love knowing I work for an organisation that dares to be different.

What do you do at Octopus?

I am an Energy Specialist for our business team. My job, in a nutshell, is to ensure that Octopus' SME customers receive the best customer service possible. A regular ‘day in the life’ involves helping customers through the sign-up process, answering any day-to-day queries and gaining knowledge on all things energy.

What are you working on at the moment?

Getting the word out about our cool bespoke energy tariff for businesses in Leicestershire. Octopus has found a home here in Leicester, and we’re trying to get local businesses involved and signed up for green energy in the city. The energy we provide to these customers is entirely sourced from a solar farm just down the road in Uppingham. 100% green energy from a local source! Really exciting.

What's the most challenging part of your job?

No two days are the same, and there’s always plenty to do. The most challenge is keeping up with the workload and making sure we’re always on top of customer questions so no one has to wait too long! Even if it means staying a little late to sort out a difficult account issue.

What's the best part of your job?

Getting to know all our wonderful customers and helping them however I can.

Any message for people thinking about switching?
