Joining Intelligent Octopus Go with an Ohme

Here’s what you need to do if you have an Ohme charger and want to join Intelligent Octopus Go.

First, you need to be an Octopus Energy customer. If you’re not one yet, you can sign up here.

Before starting, make sure that:

  • you have a smart meter that is sending us half hourly readings
  • you don’t have any other kind of charging schedule set up - whether that’s on the car, the charger, or a third-party app. Otherwise, you need to disable them first.

Step 1: Open the Octopus Energy app.

Go to the Home tab, scroll down to the ‘Explore our Lab’ section and tap the ‘Get started’ button on ‘the Intelligent Octopus Go’ card.

If you don’t see the ‘Explore our Lab’ section and you do have a smart meter that sends us half-hourly reads, this means we might not be able to connect to your smart meter at the moment. Try again later. If the problem persists, get in touch with us.

Step 2: Select the device you’d like to integrate with.

For an Ohme, select 'Chargers' then 'Ohme'.

Step 3: Add your charger

Click on 'Ohme' and then select your model from the list provided.

Step 4: Add your car

Next, click on ‘Select vehicle’. We need to know your electric vehicle and its capacity in order to accurately plan your charging. Select your vehicle and model from our long list of vehicles.

If you don't find your vehicle on the list, please get in touch with us on 'hello@octopus.energy'.

Step 5: Accept T&Cs

Next, click on ‘Start tariff switch’. Read the tariff’s T&Cs, if you're happy to proceed tick the box at the bottom of the page to agree to the T&Cs and click 'Start my switch'.

Important: your tariff switch has started but isn’t completed yet. It will only be effective once you’ve completed all the following steps.

Step 6: Connect your Ohme

We now need to connect to your charger to make sure we can control it and schedule your charging. Click on 'Connect your device', you'll then be prompted to sign into your Ohme account.

Once logged in, you will be asked to 'Confirm Authentication' - if you're happy to continue select 'Confirm'.

Step 6: Test Connection

To confirm that we are able to control your Ohme and therefore schedule charging, we need to test the connection. Click on 'Test connection' to get this underway - this can take up to 10 minutes to complete.

Step 7: You're on Intelligent Octopus Go!

Once you have completed your test connection and it has been successful, you'll see a completion screen that says 'You're all setup'. When you click on 'Go to Device Dashboard' at the bottom of the page you'll be taken to a page that says 'We're still in Beta'.

To set your charging preferences, click on 'Go to Ohme'. You will be redirected to the Ohme app, where your charging will be managed.

You're now on Intelligent Octopus Go!
