Perfect for electric vehicles, storage heaters, or anyone who can shift their electricity use outside of peak times.

October 2021 update: Right now, wholesale energy prices are at record highs.
Agile's half-hourly pricing exposes customers to wholesale market rates. Over the past few years, this has enabled customers to save significantly compared to a standard tariff, but right now, Agile prices are consistently high.
Most homes will be better off staying on a standard fixed or variable tariff right now.
Enjoy cheaper electricity prices when wholesale prices fall
With Agile Octopus, you get access to half-hourly energy prices, tied to wholesale prices and updated daily. So when wholesale electricity prices drop, so do your bills – and if you can shift your daily electricity use outside of peak times, you can save even more.
Plunge Pricing pays you to take excess energy off the grid
Across the UK, whenever more electricity is generated than consumed, energy prices fall – sometimes to the point where prices drop below zero, and suppliers are paid to take energy off the grid.
Agile Octopus introduces Plunge Pricing – a world first that lets you take advantage of these negative price events, and get paid for the electricity you use. You'll receive alerts whenever prices drop below zero, and you can use our Agile API to program your smart devices.
Between July 2020 and July 2021, unit prices dropped below 2p / kWh 163 times!
Price Cap Protect keeps you safe from surge prices
When more electricity is being used than generated, wholesale prices rise. While price spikes are short-lived, typically lasting 30 minutes to an hour, they do happen. Agile Octopus includes Price Cap Protect, which ensures you'll never pay more than 35p / kWh for your electricity, guaranteed.
With Agile Octopus, you're driving the transition to smarter, greener energy
Agile's prices are often cheaper when the energy in the grid is greener, and more expensive when energy's dirtier (usually between 4-7pm, when the UK's fossil fuel generating stations have been turned on to meet high demand).
When Agile Octopus customers shift their energy usage to access the cheapest rates, they reduce the need to burn as many fossil fuels during ‘peak times’, and help us get the most out of green energy when it's abundant. This way, Agile rewards you for helping drive the green energy revolution — making a 100% renewable energy system possible on a massive scale.
Want to join Agile Octopus?
You'll need to:
-
Be an Octopus Energy customer
If you're not with us yet, sign up below and you'll join us on one of our standard tariffs initially while we connect all the dots behind the scenes.
-
Have a smart meter we can connect to
We can connect to second generation (SMETS2) meters, and some types of first generation (SMETS1) smart meters. How do I know what type I have?
If you have a compatible smart meter already, you're all set. If you don't have a smart meter yet, or you have a different type of smart meter, you can still start the switch to Agile Octopus below, but you'll need to stay on one of our standard tariffs while we get you Agile Octopus-ready.
In some cases, this could take weeks, or might not be possible at all if your home isn't suitable for a smart meter — but you're able to switch away any time with no exit fees. Read more on this.
Before signing up, please read this quick guide covering:- How to know whether you're eligible for a smart meter
- What to do if you have the wrong type of meter
- Why we can't always install your meter right away

Hang tight while we connect to your smart meter
It generally takes us around 14 days to connect to a smart meter so we can read it remotely – whether it's one we've just installed, or one we're taking over after you switch to us.

You're good to go!
Your tariff will change automatically to Agile Octopus. You should see the change straight away on your online account.
Agile Octopus is a product of our labs, available now to customers through our beta programme.
You'll need a SMETS2 smart meter, or a “Secure” branded SMETS1 meter, that we can receive half-hourly consumption data from.
Don't have a suitable smart meter?
Start your switch below to register your interest for a smart meter. The smart meter installation comes at no extra cost.
We are installing in line with government regulations around Covid-19, making sure we are keeping our engineers and our customers safe. For full details of the steps we're taking to prevent the spread of the virus, head to our Covid-19 policy.
Once you've registered your interest, our team will be in contact when we have an appointment in your area.
Agile Octopus is a beta product. If you're OK that some things may not work first time, that installations and processes may take longer than we'd like, and that on occasion data issues with smart meters can take significant time to fix or prevent things working at all, but that you'd like to work with us to make world-changing energy tariffs a reality, check this box so we know you're onboard. You will always be able to switch to one of our fairly priced standard tariffs at any time.

Unlike products available from other companies, it relies on a smart meter system (which as our Founder Greg explains here, is not always fully reliable). Some customers have experienced delays. However, of the thousands of customers on these smart tariffs, the vast majority are now experiencing smooth service.
