FAQs
Is there a limit on the energy I can use?
To make it as simple as possible, we’ve a Fair Use Allowance – on total electricity across the year. This is set at approximately double the expected usage, so you’re unlikely ever to exceed it unless you’ve very high heating preferences.
What happens if I exceed the fair usage?
You’ll be billed at our Flexible Octopus unit rate (still no standing charge) for any electricity imported above the Fair Use Allowance, with billing done on an annual basis.
Why are Zero Bills guaranteed for at least 5 years?
We’re guaranteeing that you'll pay zero energy bills at Hollymead Square for at least 5 years – but this period may be extended in time. In other words, so long as the hardware (solar, battery, and heat pump) is kept in good shape, we’ll never offer a bill on these homes.
Can I charge an EV with Zero Bills?
EV charging isn’t included in the Zero Bills allowance, but will be billed separately at Intelligent Octopus tariff unit rates. The rest of the home’s energy needs remain free.
