How do you play the Octopub quiz?
- Tune in on Wednesday 3rd February at 8.15pm on Youtube, Facebook or Instagram where we’ll be livestreaming the quiz. Play along with our brilliant quizmaster Molly, who’ll be hosting LIVE in front of the realest looking pub green screen our designers could make.
- PLAY! Get your isolation crew together with a pen and paper, a beverage, and a thirst for victory, and answer quizmaster Molly’s 20 questions.

- See how you did. Once you’ve submitted your answers and hit ‘enter’, the quiz answers will pop up, so you can mark your work ✔️❌
Please note:
- We’ll only post the link to submit your answers AFTER Molly’s read all the questions, so it’s fair. You can find the link on this page, in the livestream description on Youtube, and in the comments on Facebook. (If the questions are over but you don't see a link, make sure to refresh the page.)
- Fastest tentacles first get prizes. But if you miss the livestream, or you're not quite quick enough when you submit, don’t despair – we’ll be awarding spot prizes as well, so you're still in with a chance to win.

FAQ's
Why are you, an energy supplier, hosting a pub quiz?
This is our second OctoPub Quiz. We ran the first one all the way back in May, and now that we're in our third national lockdown, we thought it was time to bring a little cheer and trivia to our customers’ evenings – some virtual fun you can share with friends and family, with prizes and knowledge to gain too.
Plus, we once again had some of lovely stuff left around we thought you all might appreciate.
A few hundred crates of custom-designed Octopus Energy Lager, brewed up with the help of Stewart Brewing near Edinburgh and usually enjoyed by our team at Friday drinks in our Brighton, Soho, Warwick and Leicester HQs.
Some baby apple trees left over from a previous green partnership that desperately need a new home.
And some brand new Octopus 'Three Hearts' Gin we brewed up on 100% green power courtesy of the wonderful folks at Brighton Gin.
Now that we’re all working from home, we wanted to share some of the joy with our brilliant customers.
What if I don’t drink alcohol?
When you submit your answer, you'll be able to select whether you'd like a non-alcoholic prize. If you're one of the first 500 correct entries, and you're assigned a boozy prize from the lucky dip, we'll make sure to send you a soft alternative instead: Elderflower Fizz.
What if I’m not a customer?
We can only send beer to Octopus customer accounts. (This is a way of verifying your age). If you want to take part, and you’re not a customer yet, you can sign up in minutes. You’ll be eligible to take part as soon as your sign-up is complete.
Not sure if changing your energy supplier in order to play a pub quiz is a smart, adult decision? Hear directly from our customers – we’ve got over 26,000 Trustpilot reviews with an average Trustscore of 4.8/5. Compare us to the market via a price comparison site like Uswitch (we’re their Supplier of the Year for 2020) or Which? (we’ve been a Which? Recommended Provider for the past three years in a row).
Why are you spending your money on this?
We’re always looking for new ways to share love with our customers, but understand why some customers might feel like now isn’t the time for pricey marketing exercises. Let me reassure you, this won’t cost us, or you, a penny. These prizes were made a while ago for a different promotion and are currently sitting in storage just waiting to be enjoyed.
Who is the beer suitable for?
The ale is unfiltered, vegetarian friendly but Not suitable if you have these allergens: Cereals containing gluten.
What if I can't make it to the quiz livestream?
Not to worry – the quiz video will stay up an extra day, so you can play at your leisure! Just make sure you enter before Thursday 4th February at 8pm.
Don't forget to tune in for your shot at a prize.
Our Tree Care Guide 🌲🌳
Planting your tree in the ground?
Once your tree has arrived, try to plant it as soon as possible, avoiding planting on frosty days or when the soil is frozen or very wet.
Water your tree thoroughly an hour before planting.
- Your tree will be happiest in a sunny spot that is sheltered from strong wind and not too close to buildings. For the apples to ripen, your tree needs plenty of sunshine.
- Your tree likes to live alone - remove weeds/grass and anything else that will compete for water and nutrients from around the tree base.
- Dig a square hole ~3 times the width of the tree roots, but not deeper, keeping the excess soil nearby.
- Loosen the roots with your hands so the dirt is not compact, pruning any roots that are damaged or broken.
- Plant the tree at the soil level mark with roots below the ground and the stem above.
- Add some slow release fertiliser and backfill any gaps with the soil you removed earlier - avoid packing the soil too tightly.
- Add a layer of mulch (~5-7.5cm deep) around the base of the tree (bark, compost or well-rotted manure). Make sure the mulch isn't pushed too close to the tree trunk as this can cause rotting.
- Keep the stake provided to support the tree whilst it is still young.
Planting your tree in a container?
- Water your tree thoroughly an hour before repotting.
- Choose a deep container that is 50 litres (or bigger) in size with drainage holes.
- Place the container on hard standing ground and put it on bricks to protect the roots from the frost during winter months.
- Fill the container with a mix of soil and compost (we suggest loam based compost).
- Dig a square hole to encourage the roots to penetrate the surrounding soil. Circular holes can cause roots to spiral.
- Loosen the roots with your hands so the dirt is not compact. This will encourage the roots to spread outwards. Prune any roots that are damaged or broken.
- Plant the tree at the soil level mark with roots below the ground and the stem above.
- Keep the stake provided to support the tree whilst it is still young.
- Water the plant thoroughly and keep it well watered for several weeks.
Your tree will require repotting into a larger container in the first 12 months, then every 2-3 years until it reaches its full height - try to repot in the winter months to minimise the risk of damaging the roots.
Signs that your tree is ready for a new home
- It looks less healthy than it used to.
- It is drying out quicker.
- The roots are growing out of the holes in the bottom of the container.
- It has been in the same pot for 3 years or more.
Once the tree is fully grown, it will be too big for repotting - you will still need to replace 30-50% of the compost every other year so the tree does not exhaust its supply of nutrients.
Whilst your tree is young and growing, it will need some TLC
- In its first year after planting you should check on your tree at least once a week. Give it a good soaking if it hasn’t rained for a week - avoid getting water on the leaves as this encourages disease and leaf scorch.
- Once the first season is over, just water in periods of hot weather.
- If the tree is in a container it will need watering more regularly - stick your finger into the first inch of topsoil and if it feels medium dry, water immediately.
- Your apple tree needs the occasional haircut - It is best to do this in the winter when the tree is dormant. Remove any branches that are growing towards the centre of the tree instead of pointing outwards - these will not get enough sunlight to produce fruit. Next remove any dead, diseased or dying leaves/branches.
- Remove the competition from around the tree base - weeds.
- Add mulching every Spring (April-May) or Autumn (October) while it’s young. This keeps the soil moist and nutrient-rich and discourages weeds from growing.
- Feeding your apple tree will help it to gain the nutrients it needs to fruit. Late winter is an ideal time - we advise using a granular rose fertiliser as these are potassium-rich.
- If your tree is still in its pot you can move it into a greenhouse or conservatory (somewhere sheltered) when the temperatures begin to drop to protect it from extreme temperatures and frosts.
- If your tree flowers before the last of the spring frosts, you may need to wrap it in horticultural fleece on frosty nights. This will prevent the flowers being damaged.
We love our carbon sucking friends and would love to see them in their new homes. Please share any photos on Twitter or Instagram! Happy planting!
