Octopus Energy and Omoda unlock electric driving for UK drivers

  • Octopus signs deal to offer EV bonanza to new Omoda drivers, including specialist tariffs, roaming app, home chargers and leasing
  • Drivers can save a hefty £500 a year on charging costs using Octopus tariffs
  • Octopus’ EV arm named Omoda’s preferred leasing partner in the UK

London, 16th April - Octopus Energy Group and Omoda launch first-of-its-kind offering for electric vehicle (EV) drivers in the UK.

Octopus has become the UK’s go-to energy company for all things EV – offering specialist tariffs, home charging installations, charging roaming service and various leasing options.

The EV pioneer from China is the first car manufacturer to partner with Octopus across its entire EV repertoire – providing new Omoda drivers full access to Octopus’ EV offering.

Drivers will be able to save more than £500 a year on fuel costs compared to a standard tariff by charging on ‘Intelligent Octopus Go’ – the UK’s cheapest and most popular EV tariff*.

Customers on the tariff just have to set the time they want their car charged in their app, and Octopus’ ‘Kraken’ technology takes care of the rest – automatically optimising the charging schedule when it’s cheapest for customers and best for the grid.

Drivers who don’t have a home charger yet can get one installed by Octopus. Last year alone, the energy tech group installed more than 20,000 electric car chargers in UK homes.

New Omodo drivers also benefit from Octopus’ EV roaming service, Octopus Electroverse. The revolutionary ‘one card, one app’ model gives customers access to over 650,000 chargers across Europe, with all charges appearing on a single bill.

It comes as Omoda names Octopus Electric Vehicles as its preferred EV leasing partner in the UK. Octopus has grown to become the UK’s largest EV-only leasing business, with more than 15,000 cars in its fleet and over 85 models to choose from.

Omoda, which is part of China’s largest car maker Chery, recently expanded into the UK with the launch of the Omoda 5 SUV. It is already working with 60 retail and aftersales partners, with plans to expand to 100 locations across the country by the end of the year.

Fiona Howarth, CEO of Octopus Electric Vehicles, commented: "We’ve entered the most exciting time for the UK electric car market, with new tech-enabled, green cars hitting our roads every month – offering drivers more choice, at a range of prices, mileage options and specs. Omoda has big plans for the UK and we’re delighted to partner with them across our entire Group, helping drivers make the switch as easy and cheap as possible.”

Victor Zhang, Executive Vice President of OMODA UK, commented: "As a new name to the UK we know we have to earn the trust of British car buyers. Octopus is an industry-leading and well-respected company, partnering with them is a key element in making sure we can offer our EV customers the very best experience in an important area of their ownership.. With Octopus Electric Vehicles we have one of the best platforms to introduce new buyers to our EV models "
