Looking for the cheapest energy supplier?

Whether you’re looking to reduce your electricity bill or save money on gas, you could switch to whoever is today’s cheapest energy supplier for a fixed price deal. Just as long as you remember to switch tariffs as soon as your contract ends, from now until forever.  Even if you want the cheapest energy prices from your current supplier, you’ll have to tell them you want a new contract at their best price every time your contract’s up. Ugh.

How to save money on gas and electricity

The quickest way to reduce your gas or electricity bill is to switch to the cheapest energy supplier, but you can also save significant amounts on your gas and electricity with these simple tips:

  • LED bulbs are now a good alternative. If you still have halogen bulbs, it is really worth switching over. The energy savings are dramatic, and LEDs are just as bright and last longer to boot.
  • Switching off at the socket is both a saving and a safety measure. More and more appliances have charging or standby modes that are always on, even when switched off overnight or when you are out of the house. The Energy Saving Trust estimates that this extra usage costs most homes around £80 a year.
  • Heat = energy used. So if you can avoid using the immersion heater for anything other than emergencies, this will be a big saving. Waiting until the dishwasher or washing machine is full before running it makes a real difference. And only filling the kettle with the amount of water that you are actually going to use.
