Everyone's circumstances are unique
Many people experience financial difficulty at some point, and asking for help can be the hardest thing.
Just talking to us about what’s going on can help loads.
All of our team are here for you, and we can work together to find a way through.
There's lots of support available if you're struggling; both from Government and your energy supplier.
We've summarised all of the schemes in our Energy Crisis Support blog.
You can read more about what we're doing to help consumers on our blog here.
We understand you might not be able to afford the debt on your account.
Aggressive actions or putting even more debt on your account isn’t going to help either of us.
To see if you qualify for financial assistance we need to understand a bit more about your financial situation.
We've made this easy to do online with Paylink, who specialise in helping customers in difficult circumstances.
The first step towards getting help is creating a budget with them.
Paylink need information on what you're earning, and what you're spending. Using this, they'll create a budget so you can see exactly where you stand. This information will also be shared - completely securely - with Octopus as well.
This is a totally free service and we'll use Paylink's budget to guide us on what help we can offer you.
Even if you don't qualify for direct financial assistance, we don’t need you to repay everything straight away. We may suggest an extended payment plan which means you can spread repayments over a longer period of time.
That way we’re still recovering enough money to cover our running costs (and keep helping as many other customers as we can through this difficult time).
There's lots of other support we may be able to offer, which is usually some combination of:
- Ensuring you’re on our cheapest tariff, and are aware of any financial assistance you may be eligible for.
- Fitting a smart meter, helping you better understand how your home uses energy.
- Providing tips and advice that help you save energy and money.
- Directing you to suitable - and independent - debt advice organisations.
