We believe everyone should have access to cheaper, greener energy. That's why, at Octopus, we do things differently.

Here are our top tips to keep your bills down and get more value from being with Octopus.

1. Set up a Direct Debit to save around £80 per year

Setting up a Direct Debit and spreading your payments evenly over 12 months is the most popular way to pay.

Less admin on our side makes it more cost-effective for both of us: so we give you a discount on your rates. The average home on our Flexible Octopus tariff can save around £80 a year.

Prefer not to keep credit on your account? You can set up a variable Direct Debit to pay your bill in full each month, too.

2. Get a smart meter

60% of the UK's homes have smart meters already. They make your bills more accurate, they mean you don't need to take readings yourself. But more interestingly – they can unlock hundreds in savings through smart tariffs and projects, and our free rewards scheme Octoplus (more on that later).

Quick and easy changes could bring your bills down by as much as £400 a year.

  • Turn down your boiler's flow temperature 🔥 Turning this little-known knob down to 55° - 60° can save you £54 a year and you'll feel no less cosy. Find out how.
  • Air dry, don’t tumble dry 👖 Ditching the tumble dryer and drying your clothes on a washing line or clothes horse could save you £50 a year.
  • Swap to LED bulbs 💡 LEDs use 70-80% less electricity, and they could save you between £4-10 per bulb, per year!
