You’ll only need planning permission for solar panel installation if your house is listed or located in a conservation area. If your system requires a 5kWh inverter (typically for installations with 12 panels or more), we’ll need to contact your distribution network operator (DNO) for approval. This usually takes a couple of weeks, but we’ll handle the entire process for you.

To qualify for an Octopus solar installation, you'll need to own your home and have a pitched (non-flat) roof with enough clear space to fit at least two solar panels. For guidance on the space requirements for different panel sizes, 

Currently, we’re unable to install solar systems on flats or homes with a three-phase electricity meter. Our installations are also limited to roofs with clay or concrete tiles at this time.

Is my home a good fit for an Octopus solar installation?

The cost of installation can depend on how many panels you need, whether you choose to have battery storage, and what size of battery you require. The cost of a panel-only installation by Octopus starts from £5,170 (for 2 panels). A 10 panel installation and a 5kWh battery (our most popular system) costs £10,027. We'll ask you to pay a fully refundable deposit of £200 when you agree to your quote, then you'll have the option to pay monthly with a fixed-term loan, or pay in full after installation.
