Wishing on a spark: the tale of the electric revolution
In the early months of 2020, the world of electric vehicles was messy.
The public charging network was growing at record speed as chargers popped up all around Europe to keep up with the rollout of electric vehicles. While the rapid shift to electric driving initially seemed like a dream come true, the reality soon became clear. Drivers found themselves tied up in knots as they faced confusing memberships, pricing models, and apps - sometimes juggling five different charging cards just to power up.
That's why Octopus Energy introduced Electroverse: seamless, stress-free EV charging with one simple card and app.
1 million charge points and counting
What started as a small network of a few hundred chargers in the UK has exploded into an electric cosmos with over 1 million charge points worldwide. From chargers to carbon emissions, Electroverse is simplifying the journey towards a greener future of transport.
Today, Electroverse adds 500 new chargers every day, giving drivers access to over 80% of all public chargers in Europe.
The rate of progress is huge. Matt Davies, Founder and Director of Octopus Electroverse, underscored the UK's success in his podcast episode on Electroverse: "There's now a charger roughly within four miles of anyone within the country, and in certain areas, many, many more!"

Smart charging, smarter features
The software is continuously evolving with incredible features such as an interactive global map displaying real-time charger availability, a route planner that eliminates range anxiety and charging photos so drivers know exactly what to expect. And the best part? It’s completely free to use!
Plus, the savings don't stop there. Driving electric opens the door to Plunge Pricing - a world-first, created by Electroverse. It offers discounts on public charging when renewable generation surges and clean energy is in high supply.

Charging ahead
In 2024, more than 1 in every 5 new cars sold worldwide were electric. This number is set to grow to 1 in every 4. Services like Electroverse, the world's fastest-growing roaming network, have helped make this possible.
In fact, the electric revolution is taking off - literally. Electroverse has partnered with AeroVolt, the first-ever aircraft charging platform, to allow pilots of electric planes to plug in and power up.
Clearing the air: Why EVs matter
As the UK’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, it is clear that road transport, driven largely by combustion vehicles, has to change. Electric vehicles aren't just better for the planet, they're also better for our health as they help reduce inner-city air pollution. That's why it's so important we invest where it matters.
Government support supercharges EV adoption
With the UK's pledge of £4bn to support the switch to EVs, it's clear it's not just the drivers that are putting the pedal to the metal; governments are matching this momentum.
In June 2025, the UK government announced plans to roll out over 100,000 new local charge points in England for drivers without a driveway. On top of that, the Electric Car Grant has recently been reintroduced, offering up to £3,750 off a brand-new electric car and breaking down the few remaining barriers to EV adoption.
From the island of Reunion to French Guiana, EV drivers worldwide now have seamless access to the charging network needed for a carbon-free future.
