Earth rod installation for your Tesla Powerwall
If you’re planning to get a Tesla Powerwall with home backup protection, you’ll be getting an earth rod as part of your installation. This requires a little extra work and testing before the big day. We’ve provided all of the information you’ll need on what this involves below.
Periodic testing and what's involved
Before installing your earth rod, we’ll need to complete some periodic testing. To do this, we’ll assess the condition of your home’s electrical system, similar to a car MOT. This involves both visual and physical testing of your circuits.
If everything is in order, we will provide a satisfactory report. If any issues are identified, we will aim to resolve them during our visit, but if we’re unable to fix them immediately, we’ll provide a failed report along with a list of requirements needed to pass. You can use this report to obtain a quote from a licensed electrician to address these issues.
The second part of our visit involves installing an earth rod for electrical safety. This is crucial in case of an electrical fault, as it ensures your safety by directing the fault to the ground, minimizing the risk of electrical shock. The earth rod is typically placed outside, close to the property.
Once both your periodic testing has passed, your earth rod has been installed, no further work is required - your property will then be ready for you to receive whole home backup with your Tesla solar installation.
Our process
- Either Octopus Energy or one of our trusted partners will reach out to arrange a date and time for your periodic test and earth rod installation.
- We allow 1-2 days for the testing and installation to be completed. If further work is required you will need to arrange this with an independent electrician before having your solar panels installed.
- Your property is ready for your solar panel and Tesla Powerwall installation on the date we’ll arrange with you.
Keep in mind that if you choose to cancel your installation but have had your earth rod installed and periodic testing complete, you will not be entitled to a refunded deposit. Should you be happy to have the solar panels installed without the whole home backup, and change your mind in the future, there will be a charge of £500 for this upgrade (1 days labour).
