In fact, in 2025 customers have used £3,607,813 of free power through free electricity sessions and won £200,000+ worth of prizes, including £30k for 7 amazing charities. Every customer gets to Spin the Wheel, meaning every meter reading gives you a chance to win prizes up to £512, and Octoplus customers can win up to £1000. Plus, customers can take part in our Saving Sessions to get paid to shift their energy use during peak times.

Clean investment that actually makes a difference

Octopus Energy Generation is one of Europe's largest investors in renewable power, with a combined asset value of £6.8 billion. This includes 4.4GW of renewable electricity over 270 large-scale green energy projects and thousands of small-scale assets, spanning 10 countries. As of December 2024, 2.6 million homes are powered annually by assets we manage.

Pop your postcode into our website and answer a few quick questions about your household. Takes about 5 minutes, tops.

  1. Sign up online
    We'll ask for some basic details about yourself and your home, so we can begin the process. Within 60 seconds of signing up, our CEO, Greg will send you a welcome by email.
  2. We contact your old supplier
    We'll liaise directly with your old supplier to let them know about your switch. You don't need to do anything, but we’ll keep you updated. Just double-check they cancel your Direct Debit.
  3. Switch complete
    Five days from your official switch date, we'll email you to ask for a meter reading.

Of course, your energy never gets cut off during the switch. No engineer visits needed and there’s no hidden fees. You even have 2 weeks to change your mind and cancel the switch.

Do I need a smart meter to switch to Octopus?

No, you can switch without a smart meter. However, smart meter customers can access over £200 worth of Octoplus perks every year, plus our smart tariffs that help you save money.

How does the Octopus £50 referrals work?

Find your unique referral code on your online dashboard and share it with your friend. Once they sign up, you'll both get £50 credit to your account. Our Octopus Referrals information page has all the info you need.

Do you support prepayment meters?

Yes, we currently support both smart and traditional prepayment meters for electricity and gas.

What if I don't know which tariff to choose?

What happens if I'm in credit or debit my old supplier?

f you’re in credit, your old supplier will transfer the credit directly to your bank account once you’ve received your final bill.

If you’re in debit, you need to clear it as soon as possible, otherwise they might object to your transfer (which can cause delays to your move). If you’re having trouble paying, you can ask for a payment plan, which will still allow you to switch.
