Zero Bills with Octopus Energy

Zero Bills is a world-first smart tariff enabling you to live in comfort with no energy bills, guaranteed. It’s made possible through a combination of low carbon devices – battery, heat pump and solar PV – intelligently managed by Octopus tech to keep you warm at no cost.

We guarantee to offer Zero Bills for either 5 or 10 years from the point of first occupation. The length of the guarantee is based on our agreement with your developer.

We intend to offer Zero Bills on an ongoing basis, so long as your home’s hardware (battery, heat pump, solar) remains operational.

There’s a Fair Use Allowance on total electricity across the year. This is set at approximately double the expected usage, so you will only exceed this if you have very high heating preferences.

You’ll be billed at our Flexible Octopus unit rate (still no standing charge) for any electricity imported above the Fair Use Allowance, with billing done on an annual basis.

EV charging isn’t included in the Zero Bills allowance, but will be billed separately at Intelligent Octopus unit rates. The rest of the home’s energy needs remain free.

If your solar, battery, or heat pump aren’t working as they should, Octopus reserves the right to move you to a different tariff (likely our standard variable tariff, Flexible Octopus, or Smart Export Guarantee). But don’t worry - we wouldn’t do this for the short period while the hardware is fixed.

You must be living in a Zero Bills accredited home to be eligible for the Zero Bills tariff. If you move to another Zero Bills home, you will simply need to re-register at your new property. If you move to a non-Zero Bills home, you would need to contact Octopus to switch tariffs.

The new owners of your current property will be eligible for the remaining guarantee length.

You’re free to leave or switch at any time – we’ll never lock you into any kind of agreement with Octopus.
