Who can apply
This offer is open to the first 1,000 Uber drivers who apply before 30th September. You're eligible if you:
- Are an existing Uber driver with a valid Uber Account;
- Have completed 150 EV trips in the last 8 Weeks OR have completed 150 Non-EV trips in the last 8 weeks and have an order for an EV placed through an Uber vehicle partner before 30 September;
- Are an Octopus customer by the time your charger's installed;
- Are over the age of 18 and living in the United Kingdom (but excluding Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands);
- Have a smart meter installed at your property that we can connect to;
- Have off-street parking and are able to have an EV charger installed at their home

We've been with [Octopus] for nearly 1yr, and it's been 100% trouble free (compared to the hell of being a *** customer!). Octopus have also installed our Ohme car charger and we get cheap EV energy along with great OctoPlus perks. Customer Service is EXEPTIONAL, by email and phone, if you have a query, and they're friendly and sincere too. Keep up the great work Octopus!

What’s the Octopus Energy x Uber home charging offer?
We’ve teamed up with Uber to help eligible Uber drivers get a home EV charger installed at no upfront cost.
To qualify, you must:
- Be over 18 and a resident in the UK (excluding Channel Islands and Northern Ireland)
- Have off-street parking
- Not already have a home charger
- Be willing to switch to our award-winning Intelligent Go tariff (which requires your home to have a smart meter)
- Either own your home or have landlord permission to install the charger
AND meet at least one of the following:
- Completed 150 EV trips in the past 8 weeks
- Completed 150 non EV trips in the last 8 week and have an EV on order from an Uber vehicle partner
Only the first 900 eligible applicants, or those who apply before 30 Sept 2025, will qualify.

We’ll review your application and contact you about your eligibility in a few days.

I’ve applied – what happens next?
Once you’ve registered your interest, we’ll check a few things with Uber and make sure you’re eligible.
If it all looks good, we’ll guide you through switching your electricity supply to Octopus (if you’re not already an Octopus customer).
We’ll also ask you to fill out a pre-installation survey that will let us know more about your home set-up.
If the survey looks good, one of our EV specialists will reach out to schedule a date for your EV charger to be installed.
Once the charger’s installed, we’ll send you instructions for switching to the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff.
I'm a renter - can I still get an EV charger?
If you rent your home, we will need to see written permission from your landlord to get the charger installed. Please obtain this and forward it over to us as soon as possible. This will need to be in the form of an email stating their name, your name & full property address explaining that they are happy for the installation to take place.
Why wasn’t I eligible?
There are a few reasons why you might not be eligible for the offer, including:
- Your home doesn’t have off-street parking
- You already having an EV charger installed at your house
- You haven’t completed enough trips with Uber or don’t have an EV on order
- You haven’t switched your electricity supply to Octopus Energy
- You don’t have a smart meter
- You don’t have landlord permission to install an EV charger.
You can always make necessary changes - complete trips, get a smart meter installed, get landlord permission, etc - and apply again before the offer ends (30 September)
What do you mean by 'tethered' and 'untethered' cables?
'Tethered' means there is a cable permanently attached to the charging box at one end.
'Untethered' means that a cable plugs into your car at one end and the box at the other. So you’ll be able to source your own cable to charge your EV. For example, the one that was delivered with your EV.
What size cable do I need for an EV charger?
Your cable will need to be long enough to comfortably reach your EV from your chargepoint. Generally a 5 or 8 metre cable is enough for most houses where the box is on the outside of the house and the car is parked on a driveway.
What does a 'standard installation' involve?
Our EV chargepoint installations are grouped into three categories.
They consider different factors that help us estimate how complex the installation is going to be:
- Where do you want your charger to be fitted?
- How long will it take to run a cable from your main fuse box to your charger?
- Will we need to drill through any walls?
A standard installation is included in the price of your charger. But if the installation is more complex and our engineers will need to spend more time at your home, it’ll cost a bit more.

Every home is different and you might want something more complex. For example, fixing your chargepoint to a pole or hiding cables under floorboards. In these cases, we’ll prepare a custom quote for you.
Our claims explained
Save 88% vs public charging when you power up at home
We obtained this figure by comparing the cost to charge an EV on the public charging network vs charging on our IO GO tariff. To calculate the rate for charging on the public charging network, we used data from zapmap, who calculated the weighted average price** to charge an electric car on the public charging network, in May 2024, to be 57p/kWh on slow/fast chargers and 80p/kWh for rapid/ultra-rapid chargers.
To calculate the the savings, we compared the cost to charge an EV on IO GO against the cost to charge on the slow/fast chargers at 57p/kWh. Assuming you charge your car on our IO GO tariff, and only at the off peak hours, you are charged a rate of 7p/kWh. This is 50p (or 88%) cheaper than the average rate to charge on a slow/fast charger on the public charging network.
** Using an average efficiency EV* this equates to 17 pence per mile and 24 pence per mile respectively.
