Watt a deal! New clean tech tariff slashes energy bills for 1,500 social homes by up to £200
- Octopus and Together Housing Group bring smart energy savings to an initial 1,500 social homes – setting the stage for a wider rollout to benefit more homes soon
- Tenant Power could slash social housing bills by up to £200 a year
- UK’s first green energy tariff that rewards both social housing landlords and tenants
London, 20th January 2026 - Octopus Energy, the UK’s most popular energy supplier, has partnered with North of England-based housing association Together Housing Group to bring its trailblazing Tenant Power tariff to 1,500 social homes.
The product unlocks genuine savings for social housing tenants – cutting energy bills for tenants of Together Housing Group’s housing by up to £200 a year compared to a standard variable tariff*.
Tenant Power is specifically designed for social housing and is the UK’s first tariff to allow both social housing tenants and landlords to benefit from smart green tech.
Homes fitted with solar panels and a compatible battery system can harness their own renewable energy. Any excess solar energy generated isn’t wasted but stored in the battery and automatically sold back to the grid when demand is highest, helping to balance the grid.
Tenant Power helps put money back in tenants’ pockets, while landlords get paid for any excess energy sold to the grid, making it more rewarding to invest in clean tech upgrades for their properties.
This win-win removes one of the main barriers to green investment in social housing by giving landlords a clear incentive, while tenants see real savings on their bills.
The first phase of the partnership starts with existing properties managed by Together Housing Group and is expected to expand further, including to new builds – opening the door to affordable, low carbon energy for even more families across the UK.
The investment in these homes is part funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority to help scale up the rollout of renewable power and help tackle fuel poverty.
Nigel Banks, Zero Bills Director at Octopus Energy, said: “Tenant Power is the UK’s only practical solution that ensures both tenants and landlords share in the benefits of low carbon technology.
“By joining forces with Together Housing Group, we’re delivering affordable, greener energy to thousands of social homes, making a real impact on communities and people’s pockets.”
Patrick Berry, Executive Director of Property at Together Housing Group, said: “We are committed to improving the lives of our residents and strengthening the communities we serve.
“For some time, we have been working to find a way to deliver cheaper power to our residents, reduce our carbon impact and help us pay for the solar investment. By working with Octopus and the Tenant Power tariff, we can deliver these benefits at a large scale across our communities.”
Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “We’re joining forces to slash energy bills for hundreds of households in the region.
“With over £3 million of new investment, we’re supporting Together Housing Group to install solar panels and reduce household emissions.
“By making homes warmer to live in and cheaper to run, we’ll put more money in people’s pockets and create a fairer, greener region.”
Richard, Tenant Power customer from Halifax, said: “I love that my bills are lower thanks to Octopus’ initiatives - the process was quick and easy and it really makes a huge difference.
“It's a bonus knowing I’m making the most of the sunshine with solar panels, and doing something good for the planet too.”

Notes to editors:
*Based on a 30% discount to the current Octopus SVT unit rate in Northern England as of January 2026. The discounted rate for tenants is agreed on a case-by-case basis with the landlord and depends on the number of solar panels, the size of the battery and the share taken by the landlord.
Savings are also based on the tenant remaining on the Tenant Power tariff, allowing Octopus Energy to smart control the solar and battery system.
