Octopus boosts customer support fund to £40m and locks in extra help with fintech partner

  • Octopus to inject further £10 million into Octo Assist financial support fund
  • Octo Assist has helped over 100,000 customers get on top of their energy bills
  • Tie-up with tech-for-good provider Paylink unlocks extra help beyond bills
  • Comes as Octopus social workers support more than 360 households in need each month

London, 1st October 2025 – Octopus Energy has added an extra £10 million into its financial support fund Octo Assist, now totaling £40 million – boosting help for households struggling with their bills this winter.

Since launching in 2021, Octo Assist has helped over 100,000 customers access financial support, while making the process as quick and easy as possible.

With £40 million available, more people can get help faster, often receiving relief directly in their energy accounts within days of applying.

Thanks to a partnership with innovative fintech platform Paylink, Octo Assist also identifies other financial support customers might be missing, such as benefits, grants, local schemes and tailored tariffs from other utilities.

Applying for support takes just a few clicks: customers simply fill out a short form about their finances, and Octopus does the rest.

Paylink even helps create a personalised budget for customers, allowing Octopus Assist to offer tailored support, including bill credits, standing charge holidays, debt write-offs, and free energy-saving tools.

Octopus has also pioneered other innovative support programmes to help customers save on their energy bills and manage their finances.

Now in its seventh year, its thermal camera rental scheme enables customers to spot droughts and heat loss in their home, while offering easy and affordable suggestions for how to fix them.

The company was the first energy supplier to have an in-house social worker team, providing one-to-one support that goes far beyond energy bills. The team has helped more than 360 households on average each month in 2025.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Octopus Energy, said: “Octo Assist is built on a simple principle: getting help should be easy. We know that when people are struggling, the last thing they need is to wade through endless forms or wait months for an answer.

“That’s why we’ve designed Octo Assist to be quick, human and easy to follow. By increasing the fund to £40 million, we can support more customers in more ways than ever before.”
