8,000 Octopus Energy plushies and an electric car up for grabs as Saving Sessions returns

London, 11th June 2025 - Octopus Energy customers who have always clamoured for a sought-after pink octopus plushie are in luck.

Over 8,000 of the cuddlies are available alongside cash and even an electric vehicle (EV)1 as prizes to win when Octopus Energy brings back its hugely popular Saving Sessions from next week.

In Saving Sessions, customers get rewarded for shifting their electricity: using more to make the most of green power when it’s abundant, and using less when the grid’s busiest and dirtiest.

Exclusive to Octoplus members, participants can fill their boots with free power during hour-long slots which will usually be held in the early afternoon.

• Nearly 1 million eligible customers from last year have been automatically opted in. New customers can sign up easily via the Octopus Energy app or online2.

Those signed up don’t need to lift a finger. They will get a notification the day before a Saving Session and then they simply need to plug in and power up.

Unlike other suppliers’ schemes, Octopus’ free Saving Sessions are uncapped – so customers with electric cars and heat pumps can max out on the freebie3.

The electricity customers would normally use during these sessions will be billed as usual – but any extra electricity will be completely free4.

They can also track their earnings in real time via a brand-spanking-new dashboard available on the Octopus app and website.

Not only will all their electricity over their average be free, but participants will work together to unlock collective milestones for the first time.

Hitting targets will not only bag customers brilliant prize draws, but can also unlock triple-length sessions where they can get free electricity for even longer.

Savings Sessions builds on Octopus’s award-winning track record in flexibility, and has seen over 2 million households paid to flex their energy use last winter – collectively earning more than £10 million.

2. Eligible customers are those with working smart meters who are signed up to the Octoplus loyalty scheme.

3. Customers on Intelligent tariffs already have their smart devices (EVs and batteries) optimised to run at the greenest and cheapest times, so Saving Sessions works differently for them. They only need to plug their EV in throughout the session to be credited to the value of an hour of free charging for their car.

4. Octopus will use historical smart meter readings to work out a customer’s typical energy use at that time of day. If the Session is on a weekday, the calculation will look at half-hourly usage over the last 10 weekdays. If the Session is at the weekend, then it will look at half-hourly usage over the last 4 weekend days. The figure is then used as a baseline - any power used above that baseline will be free.
