Report: Ending the Gridlock – one year on

We published ‘End the Gridlock’ one year ago to raise awareness about the challenges we faced connecting new renewable energy projects to the grid. Since then, grid constraints have become an issue of national importance. We now have real momentum for change; network companies, industry, regulator and government are all working at pace on actions to resolve this crisis.

Despite this, developers with ready to build projects are yet to see the scale of impact we need from recent reforms. Without quick action, customers won’t be able to benefit from the cheaper, cleaner, more secure power that renewables and other Net Zero technologies can provide.

It's therefore critical that we continue converting ambition into tangible progress. We also need to stay focussed on the long term and seize this opportunity to build a connections process that is fit for a Net Zero future.

This paper updates and expands our recommendations from ‘End the Gridlock’, focussing on areas where we think current reform plans could be improved.
