Love letters to Octopus (and other cute things)

Would you send your energy supplier flowers? Write them a poem? Or even invite them to your wedding?!

We're often pretty blown away by some of the cute and kooky ways customers have shown us love, from tear-jerking gestures to unsolicited dog love. That's right, we've seen it all.

To all our customers this Valentine's Day, thanks for being the best.

Thank you for the wedding invite

One of our customers was so gobsmacked with the support they received from their energy specialist they kindly invited our team along to their wedding nuptials in Kerala - over 5000 miles away! While we couldn’t jet the whole team out for the celebration (it would have been a fair few jumbo jets) we did send a bag of Octopus goodies to say a big thank you for the heartwarming gesture. 🥂

Here's to the married couple! 🥂

Here's the note they sent along with the invitation:

Not many people would invite their energy provider to their wedding – but here we are. Thanks for heating us! Love, customer

Thanks for keeping an eye on our engineers ;)

Who knew true love could start with an Octopus van? (No, not in the back of it!)

Hi, I was wondering if you could track your employees vans when they are out around Liverpool. Today, we met one of your staff at McDonald whilst he was charging his van and getting a coffee. I was also wondering if you can find out who this man was, could you possibly pass him my sisters phone number as she would like to get to know him more as they had a great conversation whilst waiting for coffee and seemed to hit it off :) please let me know if this is possible and I will email her number over. Thanks so much Love is in the air (PS. This is not a joke, I'm actually serious on passing her number to him if we can find him)

After spotting one of our engineers charging his electric van, a mystery lady liked what she saw and struck up a conversation. Sparks flew. (As if you needed another reason to switch to an electric car.)

Tragically, they didn't get to exchange numbers before he heroically sped off to install another smart meter – so mystery woman's sister, an Octopus customer, emailed into our team to see if we knew who he was. Of course, we didn't pass on the information - but we hope their stars align again in the future!

Thank you for showing Constantine some love... in your own special way

Enough said.

Thank you for the manga

When talented manga artist Pipico moved from Tokyo to Hokkaido, her energy bills shot up. She found Octopus (a smaller company in the Japanese market!) and gave us a try because we saved her some yen. She loved us, and our mascot Constantine, so much she made a manga about it.

We've since become friends and Pipico's made more in the series:

A manga comic featuring a girl and a bear discussing Octopus. We've included translations just below!

Don't speak Japanese? Here's the translation:

"Ever since switching to Octopus Energy, we’ve been feeling great every day."

"Why is that?"

"Because Octopus Energy uses planet-friendly green energy!"

"We have to think about global warming, but electricity is essential to our modern life…"

"That’s exactly why we are glad we chose Octopus Energy — better for us, better for the planet!"

Thank you for the poems

Yeats, Keats, eat your heart out. Poems like this one about Power-ups (free electricity when your local grid is very green) are music to our energy-supplier ears. And this customer isn't the only one who's written an Ode to Octopus.

Another recently had a surge of inspiration while getting their In-Home Display fixed, turning an ordinary tech job into an impromptu poetry recital for our engineer. Keep the creative juices flowing!

A photo of a poem written by our customer, reading: Oh, Octopus Energy, you're making quite a splash, With Power-ups, you've got a brilliant, eco-friendly dash. Like sea creatures of wisdom, you harness the tide, Using spare green energy, you take us for a ride. In South East & East England, your plan unfurls, To give us free power when the sun and wind whirls. A clever concept, it truly does amaze, Turning surplus energy into sunny, breezy days. You ask for a smart meter, an Octopus connection, And if you meet these, there's no need for reflection. The ocean of renewables, you navigate with grace, In the right places, you bring a green embrace. Your emails reach out to eligible kin, In this ocean of progress, we all dive in. Power-ups in the pipeline, where there's energy to spare, Oh, Octopus Energy, you're a breath of fresh sea air. We'd love to see you expand, your tentacles grow wide, To more areas and homes, as the tide does bide. So, tell Octopus your wishes, let your voice unfurl, Together, we can power up the whole wide world!

Thank you for the flowers

A customer called Anthony called us not super happy in May 2023. Amber picked up the phone, fixed his problem, and they hit it off. They've had a monthly phone call since then to check in on his energy account.

Last year, Anthony sent her a beautiful bunch of flowers to mark Hanukkah (coincidentally, she'd also sent him flowers for Christmas at the same time unplanned)!

The pair have now chatted on the phone an impressive 41 times. Amber even joked: “That might be more than I’ve spoken to my mum on the phone!” Sorry mum.
