How are FiT payments calculated?

I've sold my property, how do I get my final payment?

To update your records, please get in touch with the following details: date of exchange, final reading on the old meter (if possible), new meter serial number and opening reading on the new meter.

My FiT meter has been replaced, how do I get this updated?

Sadly not! As the outright owner, you’ll need to contact a local engineer if you experience any problems. It’s best to do this as soon as possible as we can’t make FiT payments based on estimated or inverter readings.

My FiT meter has stopped working, can you replace this?

Yes, you’ll need to let us know and confirm whether the new installation has a separate generation meter or not. We’ll also need to know how much capacity has been added and the date it was installed.

Heads up: any additional capacity is not eligible for FiT payments.

I’ve had additional capacity added to my installation, do I need to let you know?

If you’ve had a co-located battery installed, we’ll need a copy of the schematic line drawing (showing the location of the generation meter, installation and battery) as well as a completed copy of our battery storage declaration.

I've had a battery fitted, do I need to do anything?

Your FiT tariff rates are set by Ofgem (not the FiT Licensee) when you register your installation. These rates are based on certain criteria including: eligibility date, technology type and size of installation. This rate stays the same and won’t change even if you switch to another provider.

What will my FiT rate be?

We send payments via BACs. When you complete the FiT application form, we’ll ask you to provide your bank account details.

How will I receive my payment?

You’ll receive your payment within 6 weeks of sending us a meter reading. If a quarterly reading is missed, your next payment will be backdated. 

When will I receive my FiT payment?

You can choose to opt out of your FiT export payments in favour of an alternative export tariff – while still claiming your FiT generation payments.

If you’re not already with Octopus, you can still sign up to one of our export tariffs without having to move your FiT generation tariff over. 

Can I sign up to a different smart export tariff while receiving FiT payments?

How often should I send readings for FiT payments?

If you’ve recently moved house and want us to manage your FiT tariff, you can ask your current supplier or licensee to change the ownership details on the Central FiT Register. Find out who the current FiT provider is by emailing

What happens if I move house?

The Feed-In Tariff is closed to new applicants, but if your renewable tech was registered before 31st March 2019, you can move your tariff to Octopus by filling in the application form below:
