We're looking for a Head of Shared Accounting Services to cover all Octopus Energy businesses. You will lead finance operations, reporting and control for OE Group; crucially you'll ensure the efficient, accurate and timely processing and recording of transactions whilst maintaining an appropriate level of financial control and governance for a fast-pace, lean entrepreneurial business.

What you'll do

  • have overall responsibility for accurate accounting records and actual financial reporting
  • work closely with Finance Business Partners to deliver accurate and timely management information reporting and cash projection at a daily level
  • develop and comply with corporate timetables and policies
  • ensure the Balance Sheets are an accurate reflection of all the assets and liabilities of the underlying businesses and the OE group as a whole
  • adapt processes to ensure they continue to be efficient and fit for purpose, developing and maintain process workflow documentation
  • oversee daily bank reconciliations and ensure all items are cleared on a timely basis
  • lead annual audit and any other external financial audits as required
  • oversee all tax related activity
  • ensure proper use and maintenance of Financial Systems and provide / arrange appropriate training for users
  • manage and develop the accounts team

What you'll need

  • be an experienced accountant, trained with one of the big 4 and spent time in audit function / role (enough to understand the process but not go native!)
  • be pragmatic and entrepreneurial in approach - able to balance structure required to control a large and complex business with the needs of a highly dynamic and entrepreneurial business
  • have spent time in a business, running operational finance team(s) and having been client side for an audit
  • be confident to work with members of the Operations leadership team to develop finance-related processes and policies - and guide their application (e.g. in relation to debt provisioning / write-offs etc)
  • be collaborative with Divisional Finance Business Partners
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team and influence across the business
