Through The Collective, we’re bringing people together to fight climate change by creating an abundance of clean, green electrons to supply the future generation with zero emission electricity.
For decades, energy projects like wind and solar have been full of friction, owned by corporate organisations and pushed into communities who, because they saw little benefit, did not want them.
The Collective brings a new wave of renewable energy projects where sites have been identified by our customers, can be owned by everyone (institutions AND people) and where people who live locally receive cheaper electricity when the wind blows or the sun shines.
Together we’ll shake up the world of renewable energy generation.

The Octopus Collective aims to accelerate ‘people-led’ participation in global renewable energy projects - reshaping the generation market. We will start with a commitment of £10million to support onshore wind projects over the next year in the style of the Octopus Energy Fan Club, with the initial investment to build fans 3 to 9. The mission of The Collective will be to grow this investment to £1billion by 2026 and in excess of £4billion by 2030.
We are on a mission to grow this to the largest commitment to people-led renewable projects globally.
How can you get involved? 🙋
There are a few different ways you can do that! The aim is that people participate at every stage of The Collective - from finding a project site to signing up for electricity supply. Below are some of the ways that you may be able to get involved.

If I recommend a project site or register my interest, will I be committed to anything?
Not at all! It just means you will be sent more details when The Collective is launched near to you. All the necessary information will be provided then so you can decide whether you would like to participate.
Will I have to pay any money to register?
Not a cent. You’ll just be sent more details when the Octopus Collective is launched.
Will I have to be an Octopus Energy customer to participate?
Yes you will. But feel free to register your interest even if you aren’t a customer now - you could always switch later!
£4billion is a lot of money! Where will it come from?
Everyone! The aim is to make it possible for people to invest (where they’d like to and subject to FCA approval) and combine this with larger investors like pension funds (and we think this represents the first time in the world that a product like this has been created. So it’s not only funded by everyday people but big money too).
What will the projects look like?
The projects will initially be focused on onshore wind and will follow the Fan Club model. This is where, using our technology backbone, Kraken, local people can use the energy created from projects in a more grid friendly way i.e. when the wind is blowing people would receive a lower energy bill. The Collective will also be supported by solar projects whereby we can connect the customer to the asset in a similar style to the Fan Club (i.e. Sun Club!)
What does the future of the Collective look like?
We aim to supply around 4m households with electricity from these projects by the end of the decade. Our commitment is a clear sign of our ambition to back decentralised energy generation, ensuring the cheapest electron is also the greenest electron for customers. The Collective forms a part of Octopus Energy Group’s ambition to create 18GW /30TWh of clean energy generation projects by 2027, representing enough power for 10m homes and an investment of £20bn.
What would be the risks if I want to be a co-owner in a project?
It is important to note that participation in local energy projects via Octopus Collective would involve an investment and as with all investments the target return is not guaranteed and you may not be able to access your funds during the investment period.
